Lance Corporal Hubert Millard was born in 1898, the youngest son of James and Jane Millard who lived in Stafford Street, Heath Hayes.
Before the war, Hubert was employed as a colliery clerk and was engaged to be married to a local girl called Gladys.
He enlisted with the 13th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and after training was sent to France.
He was killed in action on 5th October 1918, only weeks before the war officially ended.
Hubert was buried at the Beaurevoir British Cemetery in France and is commemorated on the Heath Hayes War Memorial.
