Private Harry Bertram Yardley

poppyPrivate Harry Yardley was born in 1895, the son of John & Harriet Yardley from Burntwood. The family moved to Gorsemoor Road, Heath Hayes around 1911.

Harry was employed as a miner at the Old Hednesford pit and regularly attended services at the Bourne Methodist Chapel on Hednesford Road, Heath Hayes.

Harry enlisted with the South Staffordshire Regiment and was later transferred to the 2nd/8th Battalion Manchester Regiment.

He was injured during the conflict and died on 9th October 1917.

Harry was buried at the Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium and is commemorated on the Heath Hayes War Memorial.
