Private Eli Bott

poppyPrivate Eli Bott was born in 1890, the son of George and Mary Bott of Hill Street, Hednesford.

Before the outbreak of war, Eli was employed as a miner and is known to have worked at the Old Hednesford pit.

He enlisted with the 10th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers in 1915 and after four months training was sent to the battlefields of France.

Eli was killed in action on 18th July 1916.  He is commemorated on the Heath Hayes War Memorial and the Thiepval Memorial, France.
