Private George Potts

poppyPrivate George Potts was born in 1887, the son of Samuel and Mary Potts from nearby Hednesford.

In 1911 George, his wife Elizabeth and their son Jack, were living on Wimblebury Road, Heath Hayes.

Before the war George was employed locally as a coal hewer – he went on to enlist with the 7th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. ┬áHe was reported as killed in action on 9th June 1917.

George is commemorated on the Heath Hayes War Memorial and on the Menin Gate of the Ypres Memorial in France.
