Sapper Aaron Hathaway

poppySapper Aaron Hathaway was born in 1887, the son of Aaron & Rebecca Hathaway of Chapel Street, Heath Hayes.

Aaron started working as an office boy at an unknown local colliery when he was around 13 years old.  He later worked as a coal loader and Fireman at Littleton Colliery.

In 1915 he enlisted with the Royal Engineers.  

He was killed in action on 17th December 1917 and buried at Bluet Farm Cemetery in Belgium and is commemorated on the Heath Hayes War Memorial.
